Roles in Fashion Marketing - Lecture

Roles within fashion marketing was both a lecture and seminar task that we done in groups in the city centre of Nottingham.

This is what I took from the lecture.

Fashion supply chain is how a garment starts out and gets to the consumer.
Starting with fabric and yarn supplier, manufacturer, brand, wholesaler, retailer and finally the consumer. I feel there is more to the chain and that there is more back and forth to it something like this.

Also in this lecture we learnt some roles in fashion marketing and what sort of skills is needed in them. This was very useful and gave me some more to aspire to.  Roles like Journalist, Creative/ Art Director, Trend Forecaster, Stylist, Marketing Communications, Social Media, Retial, PR and Buyer.
Here are some that stood out to me and what skills are need for them.

Creative / Art Director
  • Fashion, film, music, graphic design and media.
  • Formulating concepts.
  • Directing projects.
  • Visual skills.
  • Copy writing.
  • Lead designer.
  • Team Leader, player.
Trend Forecaster
  • Trend aware.
  • Prediction.
  • Global Perpective.
  • Interests to all levels of the industry.
  • Short term / long term.
  • Links with product developers & merchandisers.
  • Team player / independent.
Fashion Stylist
  • Wardrobe, selections.
  • Editorial features.
  • Print or TV ad.
  • Music.
  • Public appearances.
  • Collaborations with designers, photographers, directors, hair  and make up stylists.
  • Team player.
Im interested in these roles as I have strong interest on what inspires fashions, from cultural to music happens. I love the whole idea of movements happening, coming together from such things as politics, which will cause a stir in music, art and fashion.
